Just to throw a wrench into the very strange workings of this hypothetical company, another horrible scenario raises its ugly head. Originally company A shipped it to you and you were in control of the chemical handling and containers it went into and controlled them by internal procedures right? BUT NOW..........oh happy day......your hypothetical company has to send out a QA team to audit on a regular basis the chemical handling activities and paperwork of companies A, B and C, probably on a quarterly basis, and also get a sample analysis of the materials supplied on a batch basis to ensure that the multiple handling/re-packaging has not caused any contamination/issues with the product. All this for your ISO 14000 right? The hypothetical management team needs to get dictionary definitions of the following terms: "Handling charge" "Delivery charge" And while we are on the subject, I hope that the material concerned is not something as basic as distilled water.................. A COMPLETELY hypothetical situation: Lets say Company A manufactures a material and supplies it to me as the end user. My chemical handlers dispense from a 55 gallon drum to smaller containers for use in production. Life is good, all is well. Management enters into this happy land. Figures we can save oooooohhhh so much money by contracting our chemical supply and waste removal to Company B. Company B now subcontracts work to Company C, who buys material from Company A, dispenses it into smaller containers, delivers it to Company B, who delivers it to me, the end user to use in production. How this saves me money beat the hell out of me, but hey.... Management says this is not repackaging and is no different than the situation we had prior to subcontracting the services. I think it is. Management asked me to get a "definition" of repackaging. It does not appear in IPC-T-50, so I asked this community. And yes, I did recommend our legal department provide their opinions. Hypothetically, of course. Does anyone out there have an "industry standard" or legal definition of repackaging? I am talking about taking a material from one container and putting it into smaller containers. Don't ask why. My blood pressure is high enough as it is.
