MIL-C-38999 covers the round connectors that stick out of the front of our boxes and let them communicate with the airplane. The outer metal shells are olive drab iridite over cad plate, and they mate together with a twist/lock collar. When the suspect solder joint was touched with an iron and some Soder Wick, the whole thing disappeared. There appeared to be good wetting to the lead and the pad, but very little flow up into the barrel. Sorry, I don't have a picture. -Joe -----Original Message----- From: [log in to unmask] [mailto:[log in to unmask]] Sent: Monday, November 14, 2005 12:46 PM To: [log in to unmask]; Kane, Joseph E (US SSA) Subject: RE: [TN] Agilent 5DX Service I am not familiar with the P/N 38999 connector yet you speak of a spacer which stirs the mind. Can you share a photo of the animal you are talking about and the spacer application with vertical fill anomaly. We've had one SJ failure because of inadequate solder fill up through the PTH. We'd like to determine whether this is an isolated problem, or whether the spacer might be impeding solder flow. Of course, we don't have any boards to sacrifice, and we can't see anything with direct transmission x-ray because the connector is in the way. Anyone know of a lab somewhere nearby that offers scan beam laminography service?
