Bob, As a supplier, I recommend you contact them if you have concerns. But fyi,Sn-Bi is our std terminal plating for smaller parts. We have no reliability issues with Bi.Some customers require it because they believe it helps to prevent Tin Whiskers. And according to an IPC sponsored seminar I attended, the concentrations required to produce low temp melting ophase ar nowhere near as small as the concentations produced by the 3% Bi contained in a typical Sn-Bi terminal plating. The part is going to a RoHS compliant finish. The information we received seems to indicate the lead finish will be SnBi. With the transition from Pb to Pb-free still happening, it seems like a problem to have Bi on a component lead. Everything I have read says Bi cannot be mixed with Pb because it forms a low temperature melting alloy. Has anybody heard of Bi being used in a component lead finish? I'm hoping this may just be a mis- communication. Thanks.
