Doug, Surprised on your comment on the tips lasting longer. We have found that we burn through the JBC tips much more quickly then the Metcal. I do have to agree that the operators prefer the JBC though....... Larry -----Original Message----- From: TechNet [mailto:[log in to unmask]] On Behalf Of Douglas O. We are changing over to the new JBCs. Operators love em and the tips last a lot longer. The bean counters won't like it, but your operators will love you for it. Just make sure your operators are trained in how to use the equipment correctly. Learn how to spot bad tips and how to properly take care of the equipment. There are lots of options when it comes to desoldering and hot air rework stations however. Hope this helps... I am not such a person. I really like the Metcal irons. They are more expensive but I feel they perform better than any other iron. I will catch a lot of flack for the previous statement but hey, I have an opinion. Good luck. I need advise on the best solder stations to purchase for a general surface mount, thru-hole new and rework capability. I will want a variety of tip sizes, easy to change tips, adjustable temperatures in some manner, good capacity (little temperature fluctuation when you put the tip on high mass connections), no current leakage, and no stray voltages.
