Eric, You should not think I am sitting around drinking 30-year-old Laphroig--too expensive for my taste too. But its a good story. My wife and I were having dinner at the Parsonage in Edinburgh and struck up a conversation with a Scottish couple. The conversation went to Scotch, and I admitted I was not one of its admirers. After dinner they invited us into the library to taste some Scotch. It turned out to be Laphroig [I did not know its age], and I liked it sufficiently to buy a bottle at the airport on the way home. Imagine my consternation on opening and tasting the 10-year Laphroig I bought--it had little in common with what I tasted in Edinburgh. I am now a Scotch drinker but it is not Laphroig, but Glenmorangie [that's another story] that is lovely only 10 years old and much cheaper.
