Good comment Bill. I concur with the reliability limitations regarding eyelets in service environs. The use of "C" or "Z" wires provided improved performance when soldered correctly. I used to have to install them in PCB's when I was a kid in High school, my Dad owned a PCB manufacturing business in the late sixties and early seventies. JaMi's history of the eyelet is available online in the Designers Council list archive... http://listserv.ipc.org/scripts/wa.exe?A2=ind0401&L=designercouncil&T=0&F=&S =&P=9373 There are still some manufacturers of eyelets out there but not many people are using them the way we did back in the late 1960's... They were used as a way to connect top traces to bottom traces much like the plated thru holes are now, however they were very unreliable and after plated through holes became more common, the use of eyelets faded away. http://www.stimpson.com/funnel_flange.htm http://www.swrivet.com/products/eyelet_machines/index.html Best regards, Bill Brooks - KG6VVP PCB Design Engineer, C.I.D.+, C.I.I. They come in various sizes and are swaged using a small press and anvil. Kind of dating myself here I guess, but I remeber doing this back in the late 60s. They can be used today as a repair connection on missing and unplated holes that need to be plated.
