Before cleaning/coating we wear gloves more to protect the operator from chemicals or things on the "dirty" board. Don't you just hate it when you pick up a flux-sticky board? From a contamination stand-point, if the assy will be cleaned in the near future, handling with bare hands is little risk. But I've seen some pretty fast corrosion from salty, acidy fingerprints. We also wear gloves or finger cots during assy to protect moisture sensitive components from contamination. If there are no MS devices we usually just handle by the edges without gloves, as you probably do. After cleaning we wear gloves to protect (maintain) cleanliness or again, handle by the edges. Wearing gloves can be a real inconvenience (and risky) if not necessary, but it sure looks good when the customer tours come through. > Rainer G. But what about my original dilemma, wear gloves on assemblies that will be washed or not? Or, why wearing gloves when you cook, since you are boiling the ingredients anyways? And yeah, hockey is good, but football (real football, that you guys call soccer) is better. Sorry, but I had to mention it, since I started the whole thing... I am fully aware of the solderability problems that can occur without gloves, so let's stick strictly to the post-wash contamination. > > And in the same key, Doug was talking about not using white gloves that have chlorines due to bleaching.
