You can use electrolytic nickel with immersion gold - the gold replaces the nickel and leaves behind the phos in electroless nickel so the reaction is basically the same - gold for nickel exchange. You can also electroplate Au over electroless Nickel. We have tested ENIG for plug to install edge connectors with no issues.
