Thanks... it's reassuring to see there are some folks out there...:) not everyone is away on holiday are they??? I hope your summer is going great... We have been very, very busy and I figure that's the same for most of you... I'm planning on putting together a little presentation on 'Reading Fab Drawings' over the next week or so. It's a good subject, pondered by many folks who have had to interpret the drawings we send them to build our boards from... I'm sure we could all benefit from the use of better communications... I have had on occasion received boards that came in that were mostly 'artistic renditions' of what was really asked for... by that I mean somehow the cam operator on the other end interpreted the drawing to allow break away tie points in the assembly panel that weren't in the drawing or removed others that were needed to support the board in the panel and were drawn on the drawing... We have to indicate the location of any break away tie points exactly in order to avoid problems with traces or parts sitting too close to the break away point and over stressing them during Singulation or de-panelization. Board materials sometimes don't meet spec, copper and board thickness can vary widely with too general or non-specific notes. I sometimes wonder if the 'language' used in the notes doesn't drive this or if they even read the drawings at all... After you get to know the folks in your receiving inspection department you will undoubtedly see some of these sort of variations, especially when you switch vendors... Oh boy! Watch those first batches of boards that come in closely... At any rate, any pointers, experiences, or stories you all have for the short presentation are most appreciated... I'll be happy to draw on your experiences in creating it... Of course, have a terrific summer... it goes by very quickly! Best regards, Bill Brooks - KG6VVP PCB Design Engineer, C.I.D.+, C.I.I.
