(For bio-diesel, Methanol gets mixed with lye to create meth-oxide, which then gets mixed with waste vegetable oil. Once settled, you have a nice fuel for your diesel-engined vehicles. Great stuff! <wide grin>) I was always under the impression that you didn't want to get very near to methanol... inhaling, or getting it on your skin, etc. Nasty stuff... but I might have been mis-informed. Regardless, be careful using methanol... do NOT mix it with other chemicals. Treat it with respect. VWR, Fischer, Columbus chemicals. Get the least expensive, all grades increase price significantly because the contaminants are detrimental for analytical chemistry uses. --> Five gallons of industrial grade methanol, purchased from whoever sells you virtually any other chemicals, should cost less than any quantitity purchased from lab supply houses... it costs us $0.45/gallon in 55 gallon drums. I know it's not friday yet, but for trivias sake, what is the emergency response for methyl alcohol poisoning? --->I don't believe there is any treatment for stupidity.....
