Many thanks for John, John and Bruce. jk -----Original Message----- From: TechNet [mailto:[log in to unmask]]On Behalf Of Thorup, John Sent: Thursday, May 05, 2005 3:08 PM To: [log in to unmask] Subject: Re: [TN] battery powered soldering iron I have used battery powered units similar to the Wahl Iso-Tip in the past. I found them to be problematic in terms of soldering anything but the smallest wire splice. They could not keep up with anything that would sink heat. Charge life and overall tool life were also disappointing. As I recall the "cool heat" tool uses an arc between graphite tips. I'd be wary on anything with components. You did not tell us what you want to solder - cables, electronic components, THT/SMD, if SMD, which size, is accurate temperature necessary etc. I use with good success a Weller Pyropen, but every other soldering tool with catalytic combustion (no open flame) will do the job.
