Jason, Phil is correct. You shouldn't have to worry at all about an ignition or explosion but you need to be very careful with toxic decomposition gases. In the early days of condensation soldering (as known as vapor phase soldering) we contracted with the Hercules Ballistic Missile Division in Rocket Center, WV to do explosive testing of d-limonene terpene fluids we were using for cleaning and vapor phase liquids we were using for soldering and found we didn't have an explosive issue. However, we also do lots of testing of vapor phase liquids because of the concern for "PFIB". I'm not a chemist and my spelling is terrible but as best as I can recall it is Perfluroisobutiline and it is extremely toxic. Regards, George George M. The most common known products of pyrolysis include inorganic fluorides, hydrogen fluoride, carbonyl fluoride, and perfluoropropane.' phil -----Original Message----- From: TechNet [mailto:[log in to unmask]]On Behalf Of Jason Gregory Sent: Tuesday, April 19, 2005 10:49 AM To: [log in to unmask] Subject: [TN] Welding and Vapor Phase fluid Hello all, I need to grind and re-weld a bracket in my vapor phase machine and was wondering what precautions to take? There is a very thin residual amount of VP fluid at the bottom of the tank after draining. Any takers?
