According to the policy put out by IPC (see Feb 2004 REVIEW magazine): Certification Period: All programs now have a certification period of two years for both Trainers and Application Specialists, whether through initial certification or re-certification. Certification Extensions: Sometimes workload or training schedules preclude timely recertification. IPC's director of certification may grant a maximum 90 day extention of a CIT certification. CIT's may grant a maximum 90 day extension to a CIS if permitted by the company's policy. Keep in mind the policy also states that your certificate is good for 2 years and expires on the last day of the month it was issued. If you get/give an extension - the expiration date does not move. Example - your cert expires March 31st 2005. You get a 30 day extension - re-take the test in April 2005 - but your new certificate will expire March 31st 2007. (How come CID and CID+ never have to re-certify.....) Tom Parkinson Quality System Manager - CIT 600, 610, J-STD-001 WinTronics, Inc. However if you are doing recerts in house I would continue that route. I am an Instructor in Ohio I needed to recert people in Massachussetts and with all the storms week after week in the New England area I was 3 months late. As stated your people work with it everyday recert should be ok. Because of that they are not allowed to attend to the recertification-training but instead they must do the more time-consuming and more expensive starter-course. I think this is totally crazy (I mean those people work with the IPC-A-610 every day), and I'd like to know if this is official IPC policy or something that I should discuss with our local IPC training institute.
