I don't know if Caterpillar is "wasting" you, but most "engineers" make a bit more of the green stuff and get a lot more recognition for their contribution to a product than most "designers" do. If your employer is paying you less than a BSEET doing circuit design, you may be "wasting" yourself :) For what it's worth, I know more than a few BSEE types that consider a BSEET nothing but a technician -- usually the arrogant ignoramuses, but there are some out there. I also know some excellent engineers that don't have a 4 year degree and make the BSEEs look foolish. Me, I'm a high school dropout. I am NOT throwing rotten tomatoes, and I can understand doing something because you enjoy it. But if a company is paying for a "layout technician" and receiving the services of a "Hardware Engineer" it is a shame and should be addressed. <:^) -- George Patrick Tektronix, Inc. I'm an engineer, and I love solving these puzzles. I DON'T enjoy creating schematics. Is Caterpillar "wasting" me? I see a lot of job listings for engineers that actually include PCB layout. Seems like a waste of engineering talent in all but the smallest companies. Although it's not as bad as the designer add that asked for 2 years of design experience and 4 years of Allegro.
