The one that we have has a split blade as opposed to a "protective cover". With mine you put the screwdriver blade in the slot of the screw, pull up the collar to split the blade thus holding the screw. Start the screw while being held, once the threads start taking just pull back the whole screwdriver to release from the screw. Then final tighten as needed with the appropriate torque driver.
