David,  No DI water is NOT potable...but then neither is a clear mountain stream.  Not that clear mountain water is bad for you, its just risky with the Giardia thing.  DI water doesn't "purify" the water, so bacteria, viruses, cyst and even many chemicals "could" be present.  

Would "I" drink it?  Of course!..but then, my subdivision was able to increase the water flow in our community well a hundred feet deep by irrigating the field directly above the well.  By LAW, the DEQ has placed a boil order on that water, not that any bugs were found after testing it.  And I drink the water heartily without boiling first!  Like that LAW, DI water is NOT potable unless special steps are taken to make it potable (such as regular testing), none of which have anything to do with DI water.
