I have never heard of the term 'FOD', but it can definitely be proceduralized. We have taken those steps to proceduralize division wide items such as handling procedures for specific surface finishes, employee quality responsibilities, empty chemical container handling, etc... We have also gone the extra distance in our department to write a departmental manufacturing practices procedure. This procedure includes instructions for items such as safety agenda's, product handling guidelines, inspection tools, tooling configurations, inspection guidelines, tooling changes, HOUSEKEEPING, parameter editing, etc... Auditors are most pleased when they see a clean facility governed by procedures! Dave Simonik -----Original Message----- From: Blair K. During our investigation we found a piece of ham from a sandwich inside the unit, causing the failure. About that time we implemented a policy of no eating or drinking at your workstation. No more questions. -----Original Message----- From: Steve Gregory [mailto:[log in to unmask]] Sent: Wednesday, December 01, 2004 5:13 PM To: [log in to unmask] Subject: Re: [TN] FOD Prevention training Yeah Jason...'member the Chiefs barking at us during FOD walkdown; "Hands out of your pockets! Eyes down on the deck!!!" I thought that the Navy was the last time I would hear that. But, we just got asked about our FOD control procedures during a recent audit by Bell Helicopter/Textron. We addressed it here by showing them our emphasis to 5-S, and our standing "Take the last 30-minutes of your shift to clean your area." That seemed to satisfy them...but they did say it would be nice if we had a "formal" procedure... -Steve Gregory- Man, I haven't heard that term since my USN days.
