I am not an expert in this area but there might be an acceptable work round if you have trouble sourcing suitable material 1) ensure the mesh (of conveyor) or inside of machine is earthed/grounded 2)Blow with an ioniser [at the end of the tunnel] or introduce ioniser into air path. I am surprised to hear there is a charge. Work I did with an EFD supplier some years ago showed that there wouldn't be as the turbulence from the drying fans generated enough ions not just to carry charge to the work but also gave a path for dissipation from it. Maybe fan designs have changed or something. We also found that there most certainly couldn't be any residual charge by doing the above (even with artificially charged samples). A thought anyway for comment if nothing else. We have traditionally used mesh mats in our aqueous cleaner baskets for protection of small boards. These mats were made out of polypropylene (sp?) but recently a customer requested that we remove them for ESD concerns because a charge can be measured on them when exiting the cleaners after hot-air drying. The only ESD matting we've been able to locate is somewhat absorbent and tends to become saturated with contaminants over time. Does anyone know of any matting that is ESD safe but not absorbent? I believe the mats we originally used are fairly common in use; is there documented evidence that the charge that registers on them is not sufficient to cause any damage? Thanks in advance for any insights.
