Hi Glynn: I not exactly sure what you are referring to as "switches" and
"wiping actions". If you are talking about rotary switches and wiper cycles,
immersion Au will never come close to 250,000 cycles.
Electroplated hard acid Au will give you 100,000+ cycles at 20-30 u".
However a lot depends on the wiper/contact design, pressure and material of
construction. Key pad switches are good for over 1,000,000 using the same
type of plating and thickness.

I thought I read somewhere that IPC said Enig was an acceptable finish for
switches and would withstand in excess of 250,000 wiping actions. Does
anyone know if 150 micro inches electroless nickel with 4-6 micro inches
immersion gold is acceptable as a finish for edge connectors?
