Victor - LIF is Low insertion Force. Plug to install typically means that the module will NOT be exposed to more than 20 - 25 insertions - some people define plug to install as no more than 5 insertions. So ENIG typically meets this criteria, however the use of High insertion force connectors may NOT work given the soft properties of the I Au deposit. I am not familiar with LIF product or PLUG to install. Can you please elaborate. Is ENIG suitable for edge connector plating application. Less than 5 micro inches will probably not withstand multiple, multiple insertions. I am confused with the SOFT Properties of ENIG plating for wipe applications. For plug to install applications ENIG works fine as an edge connector plating. For LIF or ZIF type connectors the number of insertions will obviously be much higher. Testing for the 1.5 million cycles was run on 150 micro inches Ni and 3 micro inches gold Regards Gerard O'Brien Photocircuits Corporation Co-chairman 4-14 plating committee. -----Original Message----- From: Glynn Shaw [mailto:[log in to unmask]] Sent: Friday, November 12, 2004 11:00 AM To: [log in to unmask] Subject: [TN] ENIG as edge-connector finish I thought I read somewhere that IPC said Enig was an acceptable finish for switches and would withstand in excess of 250,000 wiping actions. Does anyone know if 150 micro inches electroless nickel with 4-6 micro inches immersion gold is acceptable as a finish for edge connectors? --------------------------------------------------- Technet Mail List provided as a service by IPC using LISTSERV 1.8e To unsubscribe, send a message to [log in to unmask] with following text in the BODY (NOT the subject field): SIGNOFF Technet To temporarily halt or (re-start) delivery of Technet send e-mail to [log in to unmask]: SET Technet NOMAIL or (MAIL) To receive ONE mailing per day of all the posts: send e-mail to [log in to unmask]: SET Technet Digest Search the archives of previous posts at: http://listserv.ipc.org/archives Please visit IPC web site http://www.ipc.org/contentpage.asp?Pageid=4.3.16 for additional information, or contact Keach Sasamori at [log in to unmask] or 847-615-7100 ext.2815 ----------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------- Technet Mail List provided as a service by IPC using LISTSERV 1.8e To unsubscribe, send a message to [log in to unmask] with following text in the BODY (NOT the subject field): SIGNOFF Technet To temporarily halt or (re-start) delivery of Technet send e-mail to [log in to unmask]: SET Technet NOMAIL or (MAIL) To receive ONE mailing per day of all the posts: send e-mail to [log in to unmask]: SET Technet Digest Search the archives of previous posts at: http://listserv.ipc.org/archives Please visit IPC web site http://www.ipc.org/contentpage.asp?Pageid=4.3.16 for additional information, or contact Keach Sasamori at [log in to unmask] or 847-615-7100 ext.2815 ----------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------- Technet Mail List provided as a service by IPC using LISTSERV 1.8e To unsubscribe, send a message to [log in to unmask] with following text in the BODY (NOT the subject field): SIGNOFF Technet To temporarily halt or (re-start) delivery of Technet send e-mail to [log in to unmask]: SET Technet NOMAIL or (MAIL) To receive ONE mailing per day of all the posts: send e-mail to [log in to unmask]: SET Technet Digest Search the archives of previous posts at: http://listserv.ipc.org/archives Please visit IPC web site http://www.ipc.org/contentpage.asp?Pageid=4.3.16 for additional information, or contact Keach Sasamori at [log in to unmask] or 847-615-7100 ext.2815 -----------------------------------------------------
