The Brits are consistent. Please name me all the other elements that end in -um but do not end in -ium, then name me all the ones that do end thus. In fact, I was told by a director of Alcoa that the error was made at the start-up of the corp. They had printed a prospectus to attract capital and it was only after it was ready to go out that someone saw there was a spelling error. They had neither the money nor the time to reprint it, so the error stuck. Just sheer carelessness.
