Hi Jorge! There a number of books (Lau, Clech, etc) that can give you more detailed issues on why LCCs can be a problematic component style. The CTE mismatch between the LCC (a ceramic, CTE around 6ppm) and the pwb laminate (an organic, CTE around 17ppm) results in a fair mount of stress thus damaging the solder connection. The LCC design compounds the stress issue by using a lead configuration that is both the electrical and mechanical component connection to the printed wiring assembly. Most high performance electronics applications do not use LCC components. Other TechNet folks will fill in several other LCC issues. I don't recommend using them on any printed wiring assembly. Good Luck. We have a customer asking questions on this package, and all I know is that there are concerns of solder joint cracking due to board/ceramic CTE mismatch. What are the pros and cons of LCC devices? Process and manufacturing recommendations? Solder joint reliability? Reliability under extreme environment conditions? Any comment would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
