James: You ask a sort of wide open question...as the term "non-nitrite" is pretty wide open. Non-Nitrite Corrosion inhibitors can include Silicates (questionable rinsing), organics, and other Molybdenum types, which inhibit by immersion plating. Nitrites may well be the safest for electronics, because they rinse completely, leaving no residues. Of course this is a downside also, as once the part is rinsed, it is no longer protected. Nitrites also only work in neutral or alkline solutions. What would the pros and cons of a nitrite based corrosion inhibitor (to be added to a non-stainless steel water-only parts cleaning system) vs. a non-nitrite inhibitor. What residues might I expect on my parts when cleaned with either corrosion inhibiting chemistry?
