Hi all, Attached is an email I have received from Tom Hausherr, of PCBLibraries.com Tom is a longtime expert board designer, has a passion for efficient design, preaches a powerful sermon about designing in metric units, and lately has been totally immersed in CAD library issues. Through his and his colleague's outstanding efforts, IPC-7351 is about to hit our 'must-see' lists for looking at standard CAD libraries names, units formats and any number of other librarian issues that dominate that very important part of board design. Tom has made a very generous offer for designers everywhere to sample software he and his partner have written for doing all sorts of good things when it comes to library parts. There's a time limit to this free offer, and I strongly urge every designer to register, download it, play with it and use it if it suits their design processes. If it does and you find it useful, it would help Tom and his company if you support his efforts financially in the future, with added tools and upgrades. And as Chairman of the IPC Designers Council, I'd like to extend a huge 'Thank you' to Tom on behalf of all designers for a selfless gesture, and wish him well for the future. Andy Kowalewski Chairman, IPC Designers Council Sychip Inc Office (972) 202 8852 _____ From: Tom Hausherr [mailto:[log in to unmask]] Sent: Wednesday, June 23, 2004 8:21 PM To: Kowalewski, Andy Subject: IPC-7351 Navigator Wizard Andy, Here is the PCB design invention of the year. The IPC-7351 Navigator will change the course of PCB design history. It will automate and standardize all CAD library creation across all CAD platforms. Send this out to your email list. They will be happy you did. The IPC-7351 specification is in committee vote right now. There are more volunteers examining the IPC-7351 specification than any other IPC specification in history. So far all the voting is very positive and IPC expects to release the 7351 CAD library specification in August 2004. The Navigator has all the IPC-7351 default settings predefined for a 3-Tier CAD Library system, but you can change all the settings to your own "User Preferences" and build your own personal SMT library from scratch in a couple of days. PCB Libraries is offering you a free 6 week trial of the IPC-7351 Navigator Wizard. Build your CAD libraries correct the first time using world standard proven technology. To get this "Free Offer", just register at this URL http://www.pcblibraries.com/NWiz-Demo and you will be sent an automated email with download instructions. Here's the real kicker - Everyone who signs up for this free offer will get a copy of our new IPC-7351 Land Pattern Verification Tool (LandCheck) when it gets released in July 2004. The way that this tool works is very simple. 1. ASCII Export your CAD data 2. ASCII Import the CAD data into LandCheck 3. The data will be sorted into three columns: Ref Des, Decal and Part-Type 4. You RMB on any line item and select from 18 component families 5. You insert the component dimension data into the fields 6. Select the OK button and the real component and leads will appear on top of your library part 7. Three rows of data appear: 7351 solder joint defaults, your defaults and a difference column This program is so easy to use and understand because it not only provides numbers but an actual 1:1 scale picture of the Component superimposed on your land pattern so you can visually see the results. Here are some of the checks it performs: 1. Pins that are out of sequence 2. Incorrect Pin Pitch 3. Incorrect Zero Rotation 4. Pad Size and Spacing 5. Pad Offsets 6. And we're still adding more checks The IPC-7351 Land Pattern Verification Tool is not time released but yours to keep and use forever. It's a gift from the developers at PCB Libraries and IPC. The LandCheck product will automatically come with all IPC-7351 Navigator Calculator Wizard installations. It's a new feature for the IPC-7351 Navigator product line, but it runs as a separate program and has its own development cycle. I'm here to answer all your questions about the new IPC-7351 CAD Library specification. Our goal is to help you become more productive, reduce errors and increase the quality of your work. :-) Tom Tom Hausherr PCB Libraries CEO, Director of Technology 858.592.4826 Phone 847.745.0450 Fax E-Mail: [log in to unmask] <mailto:Tom@[log in to unmask]> Website: http://www.PCBLibraries.com <http://www.pcblibraries.com/> & http://www.PCBYellowPages.com <http://www.pcbyellowpages.com/> --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DesignerCouncil Mail List provided as a free service by IPC using LISTSERV 1.8d To unsubscribe, send a message to [log in to unmask] with following text in the BODY (NOT the subject field): SIGNOFF DesignerCouncil.
