Linda, we use something that looks like a bent up "shrimp fork". The flat measuring end is .030" thick and the handle is about 1 1/2" long. The measuring end has a notch that can be placed over the lead and the wire can be cut to nearly .030". Kind of looks like a lazy "L". \_ Works for us! Hope this helps.
