I set up and ran the electrical tester where I worked.
I'm familiar with evert Charles, mania testeria, laviner and others,
but when you talk about post and donut and Christmas tree
I'm not sure about that. Do they use the waffle head probes
or the sharper pin probes?
We used 2-6 layer lexan or polycarbonate fixtures.

so related to your question, I ran into some similar
instances of this. We kept scratching our heads because
the waffle heads would fail, but when we rang it out with
a meter, it was connected. There was some solder film
or some sort of other contaminates. We used a scrubber
at the end with a chemical cleanser. All we could figure
is someone skipped the clean cycle. There appeared to
be a fine film of flux or some sort of residue.
A good chemical clean cleared it right up.

Subject: [TN] electrical testing.. ECT 9090

we are currently running into some problems with the our double sided
  e-test machine..

for the most part, everything runs perfectly.. no problems whatsoever..

but, there are a few problem part numbers that we cannot seem to get out
  from under.

with these part numbers, we have checked everything out on the machine, and
cannot find anything that would make these parts different than any other
  parts.

the last thing i can think of is that there might be a problem with our
fixture system. we currently use the post and donut fixtures. at some
point, everett charles told us that it might be better to use the
"christmas tree" type fixtures, so we ordered a set of those. not enough to
switch over, but enough to test the setup.

the problem is, when we run those sketchy parts, we end up with a ton of
opens that aren't really there, and sometimes end up testing and retesting
to get a good test.. when we manually probe the errors, they are in fact
false, but this slows down the whole etest department to a complete stop..

my question is.. does anyone have any experience with both types of
fixtures, and have you found that the christmas tree types are more stable
than the post and donut types?

  any input is appreciated..

also.. one more question.. has anyone come up with a set of criteria for
what makes the decision of type of fixture to use?

  thanks again!
