I have run into similar problems with my customers. You can "protect" yourself when you mention to your customers than IPC standards will be respected unless specified by the customer, this is mentioned in the beginning of the relationship. In this case, if the repairs meet the required standards, then you did not need approval from your customer before selling this board. That's the way I see it... I recently had a board with a repaired trace to a pad of a QFP. Is it standard practice for board makers to do repairs without telling the customer? Our QE was told by the FAB house that they do repairs and the boards meet IPC 600. While the repair was a good job I could not sell the finished product without approval from my customer. Fortunately this was to be an engineering/ test board anyway. Just wondering what other folks think of this.
