Graham,
I don't know if you are automatically or manually spraying. For automatic
spraying, we've installed precision flowmeters. The volume dispensed data
is compared to tolerance limits set in the programmable controller by the
spray routine. The machine alarms if the assembly is coated out of
tolerance and corrective action can be taken immediately by the operator -
before the material is cured. We also capture the data in our quality
management database for trend analysis purposes.

Subject: [TN] measuring the thickness of cured conformal coating

Hello TechNet!
I've got a question for the conformal coaters out there.

Our situation: We currently measure CCA thickness before application,
and then again after application & cure of conformal coating, to
determine how thick a coating we have applied. We are currently using a
micrometer to measure the thickness. Our coating thickness is in the
0.001" to 0.005" range.

My question is: what are others using to do this sort of measurement?
Are there are better tools out there to do this faster / better?

Thanks!

regards,
