The shop steve is talking about is the facility I use to own ( sold it and now retired to the Bahamas and doing a little consulting and writing books) we specilised in very heavy copper, typicaly 10 to 15 oz with a max of 40 oz. the plating can be as thick in the holes to allow for large current capacity and amasing reliability, once you get over 3 oz of copper in the hole it is near imposible to crack from thermal expansion., to handle diffrent applications having two or three diffrent copper weights all on the same board all intertwined and interconnected is quite normal. One or two oz for SMT components and 12 oz for power. The technology is quite easy to do (see megadawn.com for a listing of the technologies and books available) and any compitent board shop can quickly be manufaturing 10 to 20 oz boards. As seen in steves pictures the line edge quality is simply amasing , its 90 degrees to the board and very accurate.Almost no line undercut. using this same technology you can make very fine lines down to .5 mil. Steve purchased my books and stated he got a lot of diffrent ideas from them. So there is no reason to keep your heads buried in the sand, heavy coper does exist and has been used for years, go forth and design. Oh ye of little faith. robert Tarzwell megadawn.com --------------------------------------------------- Technet Mail List provided as a service by IPC using LISTSERV 1.8e To unsubscribe, send a message to [log in to unmask] with following text in the BODY (NOT the subject field): SIGNOFF Technet To temporarily halt or (re-start) delivery of Technet send e-mail to [log in to unmask]: SET Technet NOMAIL or (MAIL) To receive ONE mailing per day of all the posts: send e-mail to [log in to unmask]: SET Technet Digest Search the archives of previous posts at: http://listserv.ipc.org/archives Please visit IPC web site http://www.ipc.org/contentpage.asp?Pageid=4.3.16 for additional information, or contact Keach Sasamori at [log in to unmask] or 847-509-9700 ext.5315 -----------------------------------------------------
