Hi
Bev,
I
would hazard to say that this is a language translation error, because of
course, there is a "LIFETIME for the ABILITY to mass SOLDER" moisture
sensitive devices without *damage*. Now convey this concept into two
concise words in Japanese and you might say something about the toilette.
As a matter of fact, being the end of the day, I can think of a good way to
express such a concept in just a couple of words in english.

Sokkhon, Paul, others,
Well
the supplier's spec sheets AND the label on the bag say the same thing -
solderability time limit. This is from one of the largest off-shore
electronics manufacturers in the world. Is there still a chance they are
completely wrong ? Yeeees, but it doesn't look good. We are
investigating. And also asking if this is true, why?
Rudy,
good question about the finish. It is tin over nickel over silver. I don't
know the thicknesses - yet.

You will find all
detail about MSD in IPC/JEDEC-J-033A. It talk about moisture not
soldering.
Technetters,
As if we
didn't have enough problems with really, really old parts; part numbers;
moisture sensitivity; a few instances of stupid finishes as suppliers go lead
free; but now I have a new one - for me anyways. We have received virgin
parts where the label on the bag says they only have a SOLDERABILITY LIFETIME
of 168 hours after they are taken out of the bag! This is not a case
where one can recover them by putting them in an oven afterwards! Anyone
else seeing this new pain-in-the-neck development?
regards,
Bev
