To add to some already good input;

1) You might consider a UV or light curing product, which would cure in
seconds rather than overnight. They are available in peelable and water
soluble from various sources.

2) Consider how the product is packaged along with your proposed dispensing
method. By hand (bottle), syringe or cartridge (pressure dispensed) or in
bulk (gallons or litres) for pressure dispensing from a reservoir through a
valve or even screen or stencil printed.

3) pH and substrate sensitivity; some peelables are formulated with ammonia,
not good on copper, for example.

Hope this helps,
Peter

Some parameters to consider include:
1. Actual Time to cure (air and heat assisted)
2. Ease of dispensing (esp. if the bottle is rigid)
3. Amount needed per area (ex: connector row, individual hole)
4. Cost of material (ex: per gallon or per squeeze bottle)
5. Ease of covering Large Holes/Areas
6. MSDS info
7. Tech Data Sheet Info (incl. time to cure, use life and shelf life)
8. Odor or lack thereof
9. Availability of material
10. Residue on boards. This should be tested at various times:
    a. Prior to wave
    b. Immediately after wave
    c. A few hours after wave
    d. If you are using a NC wave -- also check a few days after wave.

Those are the things that come to mind right away.

You may also want to evaluate different ways to dispense (ex: from the
bottle, or auto dispenser).

Subject: [TN] evaluation of peelable solder mask for wave solder

Hi everyone,

I am working on a plan to evaluate peelable solder masks for wave soldering.

We currently use a latex that takes overnight to dry. I have several
samples from different vendors to use in an experiment.

What parameters should be included in the experiment to ensure I make the
best decision for my process?

Thank you for your help.
