I am making a company wide decision on ENIG and BGA boards based  on what I have learned here on Tech-net, something I am afraid that without knowing I might be shipping poor product to our customers.(please read e-mail and responses regarding ENIG and BGA's) While I am an Engineer I certainly don't know everything in electronics assembly either technically or empirically and rely on information from Dave, Werner, Earl, Steve and all of you while contributing my own small portion to help make IPC TechNet the place of choice for knowledge based information. I agree the "You got me there" and "Sure does" responses have diminished I would welcome Earl back on the TechNet. It is all about respect.

Bob,

I really think you twisted what I posted, and read something into it that wasn't meant. This list is more helpful than anything else on the web when it comes to gaining knowledge about our industry. That's because of us humans that are interacting with each other. What I meant when I said "Trying to bring back the list to it's former glory...",  was that there was a time not too long ago that we numbered close to 2,000 people...notice I said CLOSE, not over...I made that mistake once. hehehe

Paul was on the list then. I don't know about you, but there are people I've met in my life that I respect very deeply, and if you call that "putting them on a pedestal", then so be it. I just call it plain old respect...

We've been discussing Paul coming back within our "splinter group" as you call it, for a few days now, and I thought that I would try and nudge Paul to come back by doing a little poll, then fowarding him the responses that people do remember him, and miss him. I though it was a minor, but human thing to do...

Let me tell you about our so-called "elitist, egotistical, splinter group". We're all members of the TechNet except Paul. As Bev said in his email, Paul left because he moved-up the food chain in his company at work that's all.

We came together about 5 years ago. Not because we thought we were any better than everyone else, but because we just started emailing each other one day, and then became close freinds. We talk about everything under the sun, most of the time it has nothing to do with electronics.

Over the years we've supported each other. One of us would lose their job, and the rest of the group would offer words of encouragement. One member shared that her daughter had just passed her bar exam, the rest would congratulate her. Paul suprised everybody and sent everyone a bottle of one of Australia's finest Cabernet wines, everybody got theirs except me...US customs doesn't allow wine to be imported to individuals. But it was the thought that counted anyway. Joyce sent everyone a bottle of Ice wine from Canada, and actually hand delivered my bottle to Jason Gregory at the SMTA show in Chicago so he could bring it back to me. Gaby sent us all the most incredibly beautiful book about Passover from Israel last year during the Easter season. We're spread all over the globe. Me here in the US, Paul in Australia, Mike in the UK, Joyce in Canada, Gaby in Israel, and Inge in Sweden.

We've been communicating via email for years, and very close freinds, even though we've never met face-to-face.

That's why I think we're very special. No more, no less...

Ah...finally it's lunchtime so I can throw my two cents in.

Frankly, this post disturbs me. For one, the last statement implies that
this list is not as good as it use to be? What does that mean? Every day I
see good questions asked and good responses given. I have been participating
in this forum for quite some time I am still impressed with the knowledge
out there and the willingness of people to share. What else is it you (we)
are looking for?

Second, this has an air of elitism and egotism to it. From the "very
special" splinter group formed outside of TechNet, to the implication that
the "glory" of the list is gone because two people choose not to
participate, is condescending to the many people who freely share their
knowledge here. Nobody should be on a pedestal or begged to come back. This
is a public forum and everybody is free to participate as they choose as
long as they conduct themselves in a manner consistent with the intent of
the forum.

I hope I haven't ruffled any feathers here, but that's my response to the
poll.  Shoot, time to get back to work!

Hi All!

Just an informal poll, what would you all think of Paul Klasek coming back
to the list?

The long timers here know him, he's from Oz, and doesn't mince words, and a
wealth of knowledge about dispensing, among many, many other things...Paul
has taught me more about different things than I could ever imagine...

I would like to see him back...those of you that remember him know what I
speak of.

I belong to a very special email group of just a few of us that formed from
the Technet that includes Paul,  and we've been talking about him
returning...I really think the list would be richer with him back...I just
want to convince him that people miss him.

I've tried to email Earl, but haven't had a reply...

Trying to bring the list back to it's former glory...
