The ultimate tracking system is using the "one-wire" or "ibutton" system. This requires that a device be installed on the circuit card and pwb traces be used as the antenna. Pretty cool stuff as the ibuttons do not require power and can be read from inside their shipping package. This is the same technology you probably have in your remote card readers. Those labels withstand temperature and after CC they stay on boards really well. We use Brady printers for serial numbers and other uses but not for bar-coding yet. It is in our plan. Is anybody out there using bar-code labels that might want to share their experiences?
