Greg - We've been involved in X-ray evaluation studies in the last year with a concentration on the latest innovations in 2-D X-ray systems. To cut through the salesman/saleswoman jargon and hype, we find that 45 degrees is ample. In addition, you are not likely to really need anything greater than 1 mil accuracy for BGA, Chip-scale and even flip-chip work. The thing to bear in mind is that image quality is one of, if not the most important parameter to be evaluated. If you lack in this area, everything else is a total waste. Hope this helps.
