As it is polyimide, if the adhesive is also polyimide (not always the case), chemical ablation may also be an answer. Make a dam with RTV or similar round the area to ablate and add a drop of strong sodium hydroxide with an eye-dropper, after a few minutes, suck it up again and repeat until you hit copper, then rinse thoroughly with DI water.
