Since SARS originated in China, and the authorities there still haven't managed to contain it or bring it under control, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Vietnam are "off-limits" as destinations at present (at least to us folks in Singapore). The number of cases being reported in China itself is huge with dozens of hospitals reportedly being overwhelmed with them. Since China has not been exactly pro-active about this outbreak, it's hard to be able to judge the true extent of the problem there. Anyone going to any of the above four countries has to declare it in advance and put themselves in quarrantine for 10 days from the day that they return. If they're still OK after that time, they haven't caught SARS and can return to work. On the other hand .... Personally, I'm taking discretion as being the better part of valour and not going to any of these places for a while. It's bound to upet a great many plans, but SARS has killed too many people already to risk spreading it further around the globe, especially when we're told that "it won't go away".. I would urge everyone to consider very carefully the necessity to go to any of these areas until the WHO gives the 'all-clear'.
