Sorry, I did miss the real question. I have tried various tapes. They help but none are really effective. If there is enough clearance I use latex masking to make a dam around the area to be stripped. It's largely because of the solvent strippers doing this and also evaporating so fast that coating reasidues dry back onto the board (in the wrong places sometimes), that I am considering using dedicated strippers. These might not evaporate before I can get the boards into a cleaner to remove all stripping residues. Whatever stripping agent you use, my question is not just "What stripper do you use?", but mostly "What masking do you use that's resistant or impervious to the stripper you use?" Isopropyl works fine. If this sperads too much you might try acetone, just keep it off of plastics. -----Original Message----- From: [log in to unmask] [mailto:[log in to unmask]] Sent: Monday, April 14, 2003 9:36 PM To: [log in to unmask] Subject: [TN] Con Coat Stripper masking materials My second problem of the day: Does anyone have any information of any kind - specs, data sheets, experimental results, recommendations - on masking materials that are resistant to Conformal Coating Stripping Agents. General information may do, but I'm particularly interest in masking for Humiseal's 1080, used for stripping their 1B31 Acrylic coating. We have coated boards needing mods and repairs with subsequent ICT (In-Circuit Testing this time, not Ionic Cleanliness Testing) prior to re-coating. I want to be able to mask off (internal and external) connector contacts and the likes to stop them becoming contaminated with stripped coating and stripper residues. To mask the connectors, effectively, I'm looking for tapes, curable compounds, boots, etc - anything that will reliably mask my connectors against the stripping agent during the 60 minutes or so of stripping process.
