Ken if you check out the paper in appendix 5 of 4552 you will see the data on using ENIG as a switch pad material. Most applications I have seen HASL and Carbon used for over the years are for soft touch membrane type switches - ENIG is a definite replacement for these. If a rotary switch application is being used then ENIG is the wrong finish.
