Depends on power, frequency and time in the ultrasonic (and if the unit is cavitating). Not knowing any of the above or the bonding material I would guess five minutes. Probably can't do more than clean the part and maybe lift the edges I had an operator remove red Oxide coating from some circuit board layers (by mistake) once. Took forty minutes at a frequency of 40,000 (cavitation was there). You probably can't do more than clean the part and maybe lift the edges a little at most. If you do more find a new source for the heatsink bonding (especially if the bond material is epoxy or flex circuit resin. -----Original Message----- From: Morse, Carrie [mailto:[log in to unmask]] Sent: Tuesday, March 11, 2003 2:57 PM To: [log in to unmask] Subject: [TN] Ultrasonic Cleaning of Black Anodized Parts? Just came across an in-house spec that calls for some metal components that have a black anodized coating to be cleaned in an ultrasonic cleaner prior to assembly. We are currently NOT doing that, but, I suspect if we do, the bond between the component and the coating will break down. Before I test one and scrap it, are there any opinions (professional or otherwise?) -Carrie P.S. I don't have the specifics on the coating or the cleaning (ex: energy, time, etc.), but, just looking for a general opinion. --------------------------------------------------- Technet Mail List provided as a free service by IPC using LISTSERV 1.8e To unsubscribe, send a message to [log in to unmask] with following text in the BODY (NOT the subject field): SIGNOFF Technet To temporarily halt or (re-start) delivery of Technet send e-mail to [log in to unmask]: SET Technet NOMAIL or (MAIL) To receive ONE mailing per day of all the posts: send e-mail to [log in to unmask]: SET Technet Digest Search the archives of previous posts at: http://listserv.ipc.org/archives Please visit IPC web site http://www.ipc.org/html/forum.htm for additional information, or contact Keach Sasamori at [log in to unmask] or 847-509-9700 ext.5315 ----------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------- Technet Mail List provided as a free service by IPC using LISTSERV 1.8e To unsubscribe, send a message to [log in to unmask] with following text in the BODY (NOT the subject field): SIGNOFF Technet To temporarily halt or (re-start) delivery of Technet send e-mail to [log in to unmask]: SET Technet NOMAIL or (MAIL) To receive ONE mailing per day of all the posts: send e-mail to [log in to unmask]: SET Technet Digest Search the archives of previous posts at: http://listserv.ipc.org/archives Please visit IPC web site http://www.ipc.org/html/forum.htm for additional information, or contact Keach Sasamori at [log in to unmask] or 847-509-9700 ext.5315 -----------------------------------------------------
