Bev German silver is an alloy of copper, zinc and nickel. It is the nickel that gives it its lustre and, as you know, when you heat nickel and their alloys, the oxide is brownish. It therefore does not surprise me it turns yellowish after a reflow. When I was a kid in the 1930s, the rails in my 00 electric trains set were in German silver and invariably had a yellowish cast to them. Incidentally, in some countries, it is illegal to use the term German silver because of consumer protection laws that consider the term may be interpreted as argentum made in Germany! Is there a slightly different composition of the above-named material that would make it go yellow after seeing one normal reflow? No, the color is NOT flux residue. > > regards, > Bev Christian > Research in Motion > > --------------------------------------------------- > Technet Mail List provided as a free service by IPC using LISTSERV 1.8e > To unsubscribe, send a message to [log in to unmask] with following text in > the BODY (NOT the subject field): SIGNOFF Technet > To temporarily halt or (re-start) delivery of Technet send e-mail to [log in to unmask]: SET Technet NOMAIL or (MAIL) > To receive ONE mailing per day of all the posts: send e-mail to [log in to unmask]: SET Technet Digest > Search the archives of previous posts at: http://listserv.ipc.org/archives > Please visit IPC web site http://www.ipc.org/html/forum.htm for additional > information, or contact Keach Sasamori at [log in to unmask] or 847-509-9700 ext.5315 > ----------------------------------------------------- > > > > > --------------------------------------------------- Technet Mail List provided as a free service by IPC using LISTSERV 1.8e To unsubscribe, send a message to [log in to unmask] with following text in the BODY (NOT the subject field): SIGNOFF Technet To temporarily halt or (re-start) delivery of Technet send e-mail to [log in to unmask]: SET Technet NOMAIL or (MAIL) To receive ONE mailing per day of all the posts: send e-mail to [log in to unmask]: SET Technet Digest Search the archives of previous posts at: http://listserv.ipc.org/archives Please visit IPC web site http://www.ipc.org/html/forum.htm for additional information, or contact Keach Sasamori at [log in to unmask] or 847-509-9700 ext.5315 -----------------------------------------------------
