Charlie, please feel free to contact Cookson Electronics' Specialty Coating Systems division in Indianapolis, IN toll-free at 1-800-356-8260 for Tech Support information on calibrating the Omegameter and Ionograph products. SCS took over the operations of the ionic contamination units in 1998 from Cookson's Alpha Metals group, and the Tech Support and Engineering staff there would be happy to assist you with any questions. I suggest you convert the board area to cm^2 first. Get some standard test solution #3 (750 ppm which equates to 750ug/ml) and dilute it with distilled water 10:1 if necessary for sensitivity. Add sufficient volume of test solution (i.e. "weight of salt") to the Omegameter to match your permissible weight limit and see what the Omegameter reads. Calibrate as required to read 1:1, but if the Omegameter assumes a certain board area to calculate its reading, make sure that you take this into account. If you have the SMD II model, it should be capable of measuring the 6.45ug/in^2 requirement - it equates to 1ug/cm^2. (Based on the pwb surface area) The assembly has 633.5 sq.in. surface area. The customer has supplied me with documentation from; Physical Design and Manufacture of Telecommunications Products PWB Assembly Requirements, GR-78-CORE, Issue 1, Sept 1997. Section 7.1.3.9 I have an Omegameter 600. Is there an equivalence factor, etc? Or is it a 1 to 1 deal? Thanks in advance.
