Hi Bev! SERA isn't giving you a goofy reading - if you are using the borate buffer solution then the nickel oxide's hydrogen potential is playing havoc with the SERA curves. If you use SERA in the PESO mode you would be able to generate useful curves. Darn electrochemical phenomena! Ability to rework the shield is related to color. I tried SERA, but the system gives squirrelly results. We are doing SEM/EDX right now. Question; Is the component a chemical etched Rf shield? If so what you are seeing is probably residue from the fabrication process. As far as I know the condition is cosmetic, i.e. doesn't affect solderability. I consider it a process indicator and contact the vendor when we see it.
