Before I get jumped on for being iresponsible, I did not mean to imply that the fluxmarker should be left on for long periods. As with chemical intended for temp. use it should be removed asap. This goes for tape, masking etc. Sorry if I gave the wrong impression. Many w/s fluxes can start causing problems in less than 30 minutes and the longer you leave it, the more difficult it will become to effectively clean off the residues. However, if it's a logistical problem of accumulating sufficient boards to cart over to the cleaning machine, there is an elegant solution. Some flux manufacturers make a chelating neutraliser or "Rinse Aid" (maybe under a variety of names. This is a very mild alkali which neutralises the flux residues and chelates the metal salts. NB This is NOT a saponifier and never use a saponifier to do this. Make up a bucket-full at the lowest concentration recommended and, as soon as you have finished doing whatever you do, drop the circuit into the bucket. It's OK to keep it there for a couple of hours or so. Then take the bucket over to the cleaning machine and fish out the circuits to clean them. You will find your solder joints will look a lot better and your assemblies will be cleaner at the end. Brian Larry Koens wrote: > We use the water soluble fluxmarkers made by Sanford. I've been trying to find out how long this marker can remain on the PCB before washing is required. Does anyone else use these markers?
