Good Morning Leland, Sounds like you are caught in the trap of trying to cure symptoms rather than the disease. >Are there any better ways to accomplish this goal? If you have decided to live with the scattered/missing descretes problem I would suggest that you place the fine pitch (high $) components as a secondary operation and only on "good" assemblies (i.e. add a visual inspection between placing descretes and high$ parts). This is still a Band-Aid, but could keep production running until you resolve your other problems.
