Carrie:

I stipulate to the discussions obvious intent to achieve a better inspection performance.
However, the intital presumption is that the inspector can, in fact see.
Then the real conundrum presents itself.
What one sees versus what on thinks they see are two different things.
Why would inspection be much different in terms of consistant results.
I believe that  is why the Martin Marietta Inspection Manual showing pictures that clearly detailed what was acceptable
vs. what was not is worth reviewing.

It eliminates ad-hoc interpretation for what is accepatable would it not.
In terms of assemblies, I found it to be a superior teaching aid as well as process method.

Hmmmm.
Randy, I see a lot of people on the road with driver's licenses, but, they still can't drive.
I recommend a more stringent means of ensuring that what an inspector sees and calls out as good or bad really is what he says it is.

You may recall the initial NASA HDBK 5300 required all inspectors and
operators to have vision tested including color blindness tests.

IPC does not require this that I am aware of. Corrected vision is really a
good thing both from a company and personnel stand point.

As a part of the Training and Certification you could as a comp any policy
require
eye exams. After all, you have to take an eye exam for a drivers license,
std of commercial.

        Technetters,

We are bouncing around the idea to formally "Certify" our inspectors. I
have
seen on this site several times that an "Eye Exam" is part of that
certification. What exactly are they checking for during that eye exam
(Color blindness, healthiness of eyes, 20/20??)?

Would like to hear from as many as possible on the subject of the eye
exam,
plus how you certify your inspectors.

Thanks in advance for your responses,
