Press it in and be done. I believe you had this come up when you first moved to Tulsa. They were pressing and soldering, because that's the way they always had done it. For one thing the finish on some press fits is not very solderable. For another it costs money and I doubt there is any real gain in reliability. The press fits are designed to be pressed not soldered.
