Technetters,
I have a question concerning damaged, surface mounted components for Class 3 product. I have studied the IPC-A-610 manual, pages 12-90, 91, & 92. We are having issues with some of our components for a product we are manufacturing, some being inductors coming to us from the supplier with (which we plan to deal with the supplier) small nicks out of the component. We have some other components that are plastic encapsulated, some are not. In the manual, it talks about resistors and what is acceptable for Class 1,2, & 3. For Table 12-13 Criteria, it shows percents of chip-outs. The illustration is showing a 5 sided chip component, but is this table referring to all components? If this table is for all components, can we assume that damage to a component (other than a resistor) for Class 3 product, is a defect?

Thank much
