I think it really depends on what type of first article
process you are referring too and the goals of the review. If the review
is for first time builds and the goal is to confirm manufacturability I feel
this needs to involve more than the machine operator. If the first article
is a repeater product and the goal is to confirm a process setup. in
those instances a sanity check is nice and most times can be performed by
another operator in the same department.
Being proactive and making sure what you are about to produce
meets the product requirements. Then confirming the process is deemed
worthy is not stupid or a waste of time. Everyone makes mistakes and can
do a no brainer oops. 5 minutes up front can save hours later.
