-YOU ARE INVITED TO ATTEND- http://www.ipc.org/SanDiego/200210.htm <http://www.ipc.org/SanDiego/200210.htm> San Diego Chapter of the IPC Designers Council is pleased to present the following: Monday Oct 21st, 2002 @ 6PM Tom Hausherr of WindRiver Systems on "Transitioning to the Metric System" (or Making the Metric Leap!) This meeting will review the benefits of transitioning from the English measurement system to the Metric system. We all know that there is industry chaos when two different measurement systems are being used. The world standards groups have united and picked the metric measurement system for the development of all industry products. We must examine the cost, time and psychological aspects of retooling our companies to adopt the metric system. Who Should Attend? If you are a PCB designer or EE engineer this course is a must if you intend to maintain a competitive edge in the electronics industry. If you work in a PCB manufacturing facility or you are a PCB assembly worker, this meeting will introduce you to what's coming your way in the near future. Transitioning to the metric system now will put you a head of the competition. Every industry will make the transition over the next 5 years. The sooner you do the more competitive you'll be. About the Instructor Since he started schematic layout more than twenty-eight years ago, Tom has been recognized as one of the top PCB layout designers in Southern California. When you see his career highlights below, you'll understand why. For the past 4 years, Tom has been employed by Wind River Systems. Tom has implemented a CAD Design Environment that he had developed and tweaked over and over again since 1981 - eliminating duplication and insuring accuracy. Tom is working with the Standards Groups helping to transition the electronics industry to the metric measurement system. Tom created a world class CAD metric environment, which took three man-years to develop. Wind River started using the new metric environment in December 1999 and shortly after, Tom opened a website www.pcbstandards.com <www.pcbstandards.com> to offer metric technology to the electronic industry for free. Here are some of Tom's career highlights: IPC Advanced Certified Designer CID+ 50,000+ hours working at a CAD terminal developing standards and technology Certified PADS trainer, Tom has trained over 100 companies PowerPCB Product Champion Owned and operated his own PCB layout service bureau for 12 years Created and documented five different CAD Libraries from scratch Distributed 10,000+ copies of the CAD land pattern library to different companies worldwide. Co-authored a 600-page PADS-PowerPCB training manual Been involved with the development of over 3,000 PCB products for RF, analog, digital, front panel, power supply, back panel, test fixture and mixed technology boards Current chairman of the Mentor Graphics PADS User Group in San Diego Meeting Agenda: 6:00-6:30 Dinner - (be prompt or you miss out!) 6:30-6:45 SDDC announcements, business, and introductions 6:45-8:00 - Tom Hausherr - Transitioning to the Metric System 8:00 - 8:15 - Questions and Answers 8:15 Adjourn Hosted by the San Diego Chapter of the IPC Designers Council This event will be held at: Overland Storage 4820 Overland Avenue San Diego, California 92123 1-800-729-8725 1-858-571-5555 Directions: From Los Angeles: From the 5 Fwy south, take the 805 Fwy South exit on the left.
