Bev,
We used to use unplated Nickel Silver Alloy 770 for our RF shields. The problems we had was that sometime we would get shields that soldered okay during surface mounting and sometime they didn't. We currently use solder plated steel.

Subject: [TN] unplated copper nickel alloy

We have an RF cans that is unplated copper nickel alloy. It turns yellow after reflow. This alloy of 65%Cu, 17%Zn and balance Ni. This is one of a class of copper alloys called Nickel Silver. The particular alloy I THINK is CDA752.

How prevalent is the use of UNPLATED copper/nickel alloys in the SMT world? .

regards,

Bev
